Blend

A Blend is a mixture of several malt (and often grain) whiskies. The result is a consistent taste and quality.

There are several different types of blends in Scotland:

  • Blended Malt: only Single Malt Whiskies from different distilleries (former also known as Pure Malt or Vatted Malt)
  • Blended Grain: only Grain Whiskies from different distilleries (former also known as Vatted Grain)
  • Blended Scotch: a mixture of Grain Whiskies and one or more Single Malt Whiskies

The invention of whisky blending is attributed to Andrew Usher Senior (1782 – 1855) and his son Andrew Usher Junior (1826 – 1898).
