Quercus

Quercus is the Latin name for the generic group of oaks. Depending on the used type there are differences in the aroma and flavor profile. The most used types for the maturation of whisk(e)y are:

  • Q. alba (white oak) from North America
  • Q. robur (common oak) and Q. petraea (durmast oak) from Europe
  • Q. mongolica or mizunara from Japan
