In the whisky business, independent bottlers play a vital role. These companies often buy individually selected casks from a variety of distilleries and bottle the whisky under their own name, often labelled with the distillery of origin. They are also the only source for single malts from distilleries whose owner do not bottle by their own (because their whisky is mainly intended for blending). In recent times, there has been a trend among Scottish independent bottlers towards buying (or building their own) distilleries in order to secure the supply of whisky for their companies.
Independent Bottlers I had at least one sample from in this blog.
